Next Tuesday (27th) at the Barbican in East London Intelligence Squared will be holding a debate: does hip hop help or degrade society? With guest speakers like KRS One and Benjamin Zephaniah on stage and others like Q Tip, Estella and Royce Da 5’9 joining via web link this isn’t to be missed. Tickets range from £15-£40.

J. Dilla’s Mum Gets Hundreds Of Unreleased Tapes, Artifacts, Manuscripts:

A record store owner has discovered hundreds of lost tapes and other works by the late J Dilla. Click on the title to read the article on AllHipHop.

Although J Dilla sadly passed away in 2006 his influence still lives on in modern hip hop through the likes of MF Doom, Dangermouse, Samiyam and Flying Lotus. The J Dilla foundation also works in poor inner city areas to provide kids a chance to gain a musical education.

New one from Earl P, making what he calls ‘tunes in the realms of breaks and progression’. His music ranges from drum and bass to hip-hop to almost future-garage minimalism with a subtle touch and precise technical ability.

Post bootcamp it will be interesting to see what new material he’s got. He definitely seems to have grown up a bit and got more serious judging from Home and his verse on Oldie, but only the release of a full new mixtape will show if he’s still got it or not.
I’m guessing he does.
